This on-again-off-again “protect black women” thing that Black people do is so corny and fraudulent. I can’t wait to see some consistency in the movement but I know it won’t be anytime soon. Give it a couple more days and everything will go back to being the Black woman’s fault and there will be no decrease in our death rate at the hands of Black people.

Just so I’m understanding this correctly, a comedian hosting an event can’t say anything about a person with alopecia but Black women don’t mind jumping another Black woman and ripping her hair out of her scalp?

How about when your adult uncles, brothers, and cousins are picking up young girls at the high school, I don’t see yall worried about protecting black women then. In fact, yall blame the young girls and them “fast”.

For some reason, Jada Pinket Smith can’t be told she looks like GI Jane because she is “suffering” from alopecia? But Lizzo is fair game? Yall kill me with the selective outrage.

Alopecia is sudden hair loss that starts with one or more circular bald patches that may overlap. Alopecia areata occurs when the immune system attacks hair follicles and may be brought on by severe stress. The main symptom is hair loss.

Alopecia runs in my family and I wasn’t raised to believe that the amount of hair on my head is what makes me and if I don’t have long hair then it’s some tragic turn of events where I’m so broken and fragile that I can’t go on with life or laugh at myself. So when I hear people say Jada is “suffering”, I have to ask, why do black women feel like they are suffering when they have low-cut hair? You still have breath in your lungs and an able body, then what's the problem? Isn’t this what yall tell people with missing limbs.

I personally believe that it’s a colonized mindset to think you have to have long hair to be a beautiful feminine woman. Losing your hair can be a shock to some women but shock is not suffering. Being sad is not suffering. Women with hair feel these same emotions but according to society, jokes made about women who have hair is no big deal because they don’t have alopecia so they must not be “suffering”? No, Jada gets the same pep talk as everybody else who hears things that they don’t like, love yourself, and don’t worry about what other people have to…
