People who are saying the gas prices “aren’t that bad” are full of shit and clout. I now spend $600/ month on gas. I used to only spend just under $300/ month.

Let’s do the math. $600×12 is $7,200/ per year. $300×12 is $3,600 per year.

I’m currently paying double in gas with the new gas prices and I do not like that at all.

In the last week of February 2022, I started using an app I heard about on the radio called Upside app. Upside is formally known as GetUpside and is a cashback app that gives you cash back for transactions you make at gas stations, restaurants, and grocery stores across the U.S. In my area, I can only get cashback on gas and restaurants as they have not partnered with any grocery stores yet.

When I first started using the Upside app I was getting .62 cents per gallon cashback. Shortly after, the war in Ukraine quickly changed all of that as the gas prices started climbing. Where we’re used to seeing .62 and .53 cents cash back per gallon, it had dropped to .07 and .12 cents off because gas companies were losing money. Upside sent out a communication acknowledging the changes, why they were happening, and reassuring us that things will be back to normal as gas prices stabilize. Lately, I’ve been seeing .25 cents cash back on gas and 35% cash back at restaurants so the rewards are climbing back up.

The profile setup is very straightforward and easy to follow. Through my account, I have linked the card I use for gas. Every time I’m ready to go get gas I open my app, find a location near me with the gas price I want, then select “claim offer”. After I select the offer the app tells me how long I have to make my purchase. Once I get to the gas station I check-in through the app and tap the card I will be using for this transaction and pump my gas. A couple of days later the cashback is in my app account and I have the option to deposit the funds in my bank account or make purchases at restaurants.
