The September Surge refers to the uptick in hiring activity that often occurs after the summer months, as companies ramp up recruitment efforts to meet year-end goals. This is a prime time to apply for jobs.

I know it’s tempting to put your feet up and slide into that sweet potato cinnamon spice season vibe, but hold up! We’re in the midst of September Surge — aka, the job market’s version of happy hour. Companies are out here throwing jobs like Oprah handing out cars: “You get a job! You get a job! You ALL get jobs!” Ok not really, well, kinda…

Here’s why you need to keep your hustle strong and your resume fresh:

  1. More Jobs, Fewer Excuses — Companies are like, “Hey, we’ve got goals to meet, and we need YOU to make it happen.” If you’re thinking, “But they didn’t want me in June,” honey, September is giving whole new energy. Swipe right on those job apps and keep it moving!
  2. Competition Is Dozing Off — While everyone’s busy sipping everything pumpkin spice and trying to figure out if it’s sweater weather yet, you can slide right into those open positions. Who’s your competition? Becky, who’s too busy posting about fall aesthetics? Or Jake, fresh out of college…
